Kim Van Meter

Kim Van Meter is a graduate student and research assistant in the Environmental Engineering department at the University of Iowa. She is originally from Ames, Iowa. Despite being raised in a family of engineers, she went on to obtain her Bachelor of Arts degree in English, with honors, at the University of Iowa. After completing graduate studies in English at the University of Washington, Van Meter worked in communications and public relations for an award-winning landscape architecture firm in Seattle. Later, she worked as a freelance science writer and editor. Van Meter then returned to school to pursue her growing interest in science and the environment. She earned a Master of Science in Chemistry from the University of Iowa. Van Meter currently works on an environmental engineering project involving undergraduate sustainability education. In addition, she has a strong interest in the developing field of sustainability science and the dynamics of coupled human and environmental systems. She has a particular interest in issues related to sustainability, water quality, and water resources management in the developing world.
